As you drive along Brand Highway in this area, you'll see some of the history of the Greenough area. The "Leaning Trees" of Greenough belong to a native Western Australian species, and the characteristic lean is caused by the constantly strong southerly winds that burn off growth on the windward side (flagging). While very hardy, this tree (obviously) has weak branches, but the growth on the leeward side of the tree is more normal.
This is an easy cache placed specially for tourists or travellers in Western Australia. Access to this cache is on the western side of the highway in a small parking area. This spot is without doubt the best place for a photograph of any of these unusual trees, which are so clearly deformed by the brute force of prevailling winds. Stop and take a break from driving, see the power of nature at work for yourself and claim a cache all in one hit.
To claim this cache, post a photograph of yourself and/or your gps with the tree in the background in your log OR email me with the answer to the following questions :
Q1. What species of tree is referred to on the sign?
Q2. Who was the sign on the site designed by?
Q3. Who are the last two sponsors listed on the sign
It is not etiquette to include answers or photos that show the answers in your Log. If you do this your log WILL be deleted
