Pursue Your Quarry Traditional Cache
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
Start at Gate 9 Anstey Hill Reserve Lower North East Road.
If you don't want to go near the base of the quarry, access is also available from gate 10 and the path is not so steep.
This cache has been relocated to the new position after a rockfall near the original site. You can see the rock slide from the new location. Cache is a clear plastic lunch box and contains a log book and goodies. Allow 10 minutes to walk to the cache up a fairly steep path. On a nice day the view is worth the effort.
There are signs near the base of the quarry giving a brief history of the site if you have time to detour there after finding the cache.
Some further information is shown below.
ANSTEY HILL :
"KLOPPERS QUARRIES opened in 1878 on quartzite for use as road base material, and for building stone. It closed in 1927. On imagery it appears as a small open cut into the side of a hill, not infilled, and with major regrowth (2008)."
Interestingly, Kloppers Quarry has hosted several plays during the 'Adelaide Festival of Arts' (one of several regular music and arts festivals held in South Australia), making use of its natural 'Amphitheatre' type shape, the area seats approx 200 people.
