Ding Dong Dell, Otago Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

U.N.C.L.E.: Checked out in light of drmatt84's DNF and, sure enough, the cache is gone. One of the magnets from the container was still there though! That's the second muggling so will archive this time and open up the area to someone else. Hopefully another cache will be placed here as it is a lovely spot and deserves a cache to attract people who otherwise probably wouldn't know about it.

Geocache Description:

This cache is at Port Chalmers. Easy access, you can drive straight to the site.

This is a nice little spot with a good view. Great place to come if you want to watch the container terminal at work. When I was here I heard the bells at the nearby church, hence the name of the cache.

The cache is a 400ml snaplock container painted black. When placed it contained the trading items from my archived Berwick Forest cache and a logbook/pen/pencil.

The listed co-ordinates will take you to the site. You will then need to answer the following questions in order to find the exact location of the cache (accuracy 5 m). All the answers can be found at the site.

The cache is at S45deg 48.XWZ E170deg 37.YYV

YY= Angela MacDiarmid was born in ??YY.

W= The descendents were celebrating ??W years since the arrival of the "Ajax".

X= Sir John was mayor until ??X?.

Z= The Ufton family was celebrating their ?Z?th reunion.

V= A-B where the brass plaque reads "Lady Thorn Dell 19AB."

The terrain rating of 3 refers to the final cache but the hunt for the co-ord information is more like a 1 rating.

SAFETY NOTE: The final cache is located near a drop. However, with care and common-sense it is quite safe. It would be best not to allow a child to retrieve the cache and take the usual care if it has been raining. Go to the east (harbour) side for the retrieval (this will make sense once you have established the vicinity of the final cache!)
