Schaefferstown Fountain Park
This cache is located at the site of oldest public water works in the country. Check the historical marker for all the details. The spring that feeds the fountains is at the south end of the park. The pipes (underground) between the spring and the 3 fountains (one at the park, one north on Market St., and one on the square) are still wooden pipes! Heavy leaf cover in the summer seems to cause some GPS errors...see the hint for help! If you are in the area between 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM Tuesday to Friday or 10:00 AM to noon Saturday be sure to visit the town museum located north of the square at N40 17.919 and W076 17.609. Area artifacts, including some dug up recently in my own back yard, are on display. Be sure to see the piece of the wooden water pipe used to connect the spring to the 3 fountains.
