Geocache Description:

There are several good walks to this location from Guisborough, Great Ayton and Newton under Roseberry but perhaps the shortest walk (about 2 miles) is from the popular car park above Gribdale and Great Ayton, which also gives easy access to Captain Cooks Monument.

For the less active however it is possible to drive to within a hundred yards of the cache via the metalled road traversing Percy Cross Rigg. This road is accessed from the Kildale to Commondale road and is signposted 'NoThrough Road' at the cross-roads where the road to Westerdale is also signed. There are one or two pot-holes but generally the road is in good condition.

The Iron Age Village is on the right about 1.7 miles along this road

It is enclosed within a fenced area and comprises 5 hut circles which were excavated by the late Roland Close of Kildale from 1962 to 1968. They have been dated at between 800 BC and 70 AD

Pottery fragments found on the site were identified as the remains of nine stone saddle querns (implements for crushing grain) and a beehive quern. It is therefore nearly certain the inhabitants were farmers and that they occupied the site for a long time.

It is not necessary to go inside the enclosure to find the cache.

When you return to the cross-roads you are only 2.2 miles from Hob Hole where I have placed another cache.
