Geocache Description:

AN UNOFFICIAL TRAVEL BUG HOTEL. This little cache has turned into a regular Travel Bug Bed & Breakfast. (1812 to date w/ 1861 visitors) Seems it has a good BOSTON address that makes it good for logging miles. There are other items in the cache for those who do not wish to take or leave a TB. No rules or limits, just take what you feel you can help along, leave what you can’t.
Remember this really is just a regular cache.

Listen to a recent Podcast on Boston.com about this cache: Podcast Listen to the first 1:35 and then from 21:47 to the end.

Last October (2004) I went looking for a place to hide a cache in Boston. I found such a place along the Fort Point Channel. I hid the small cache (4” X 4” Tupperware) and got several reads over several days. Then I lost my GPS device. I finally got a new one for Christmas, but forgot I had hidden this cache. I went down there this week and it was still there. Still, be very careful when you retrieve it, it is a high traffic area during the week. Best time to hit it is on the weekend. The Fort Point Channel once extended to the Roxbury Canal, so I am told. Ships used it to carry in/out lumber from the Roxbury Lumber Yards. Now the bridges don’t move and the ships don’t pass through. Cars now pass under the channel. If you go on the Mass Pike to Logan, or if you get off the southeast expressway at exit 20 heading towards Southie, you pass under the channel. Once they open the connector between 93 south and the airport, you will have one more way to pass under the channel.

If you are walking, it is only a block from South Station. Head east on Summer St. and you will cross the channel. No matter how you get here, you are looking for the spot of the cable crossing. Because of the buildings, the GPS does not always read right. Just remember YOU DO NOT HAVE TO LEAN OVER THE WATER TO FIND THE CACHE! (Don't grab the black box, that is a rat trap.) Please place back exactly where it was resting when you found it so it stays safe and dry.

If you like art, there are a lot of small galleries in the Fort Point Channel area now. (www.fortpointarts.org) There are great places to eat in the area, too. Hidden Boston recommends Channel café at 300 Summer St. I agree. It is good food at a great price. (www.hiddenboston.com/ChannelCafe.html) For good beer there is both Lucky’s and the Blue Wave on Congress St. If you have kids check out the Children’s Museum and the Hood Milk Bottle. In the mix, at 320 Congress Street is the home of Boston.com (www.Boston.com) which is the site for all the news about Boston you need.

Attribute notes: This is marked handicap accessible because wheelchairs could get right up to the cache, but it would be difficult to reach from the chair. It is marked 24/7, but use caution anytime you are in the city, day or night. Stealth required, always and more so during business hours.

One last caution, there is no need to get wet, no need to go on private property and this area is heavily trafficked during normal business hours. Please be discrete.

Thank you,
Loch Cache

Caution: Use your eyes before blindly reaching in to retrieve the cache. The cache is a clear lok-n-lok box.

There were 1022 finders before this cache was muggled. Please be careful retrieving and replacing the cache so we can get another 1000 with this container.

A belated note: congrats to Dollenser from Sachsen-Anhalt, Germany for being the 1000th finder. It was their first non-European cache find.

Congrats to yanksinyorkshire from Chantilly, Virginia for being the 2000th finder of this cache! They have cached in 14 countries and 35 states.
