I first came to this location during bike patrol training several years ago. The stairs in front of the nearby cabin were a treacherous challenge on my modern day steed. While I waited for my turn, I noticed a plaque on the front cabin wall. This building was erected by Allegheny County over seventy years ago for the first mounted boy scout troop. How fitting that I would be learning to ride my contemporary "duty-horse" at this location!
This cache can be done with a round-trip hike of about one mile. It consists of three stages. At the first stage, you must gather information to solve for the coordinates of the second stage. Stage 2 is an annoying micro. Please be careful when removing and replacing this stage. There is NO NEED TO OPEN THE MICRO! You can see the coordinates for the final stage through the transparent container. Stage 3 is my favorite type of tried and true container, well stocked with assorted goodies and a couple TBs.
Stage one will be found near the above coordinates. Find and plug in numbers accordingly:
If stage 2 is N 40 18.ABC, W 080 00.DEF, then ...
A = First digit of Company C designation
B = Last digit of the year Sgt. Mestrovich was KIA
C = Last digit of the year the 15th Engineers were organized in Oakmont
D = Third digit of Company C designation
E,F = Last digit of the year Col. Hagerling was commissioned as 1st Lt.
