Geocache Description:

A USF Botanical Garden Adventure! The listed coordinates will bring you to the entrance of the Botanical Gardens. Although the final cache is not located in the gardens itself, you will have to spend some time exploring the area in order to figure out the final coordinates. The cache is a decon container with room for small trade items.

The University of South Florida Botanical Garden is a non-profit educational facility that consists of six acres of landscape displays and greenhouse collections. Its main purpose is to develop living plant collections, garden displays, education programs and research programs which promote knowledge and understanding of plant life and the conservation of biodiversity on Earth. It is also a great way to learn about local gardening techniques.

Parking and admissions to the gardens is free and the hours are as follows:

Monday, Friday, 9 am – 5 pm
Saturday, 9am – 4 pm
Sunday, noon – 4 pm
Closed all major holidays

More information can be found at www.cas.usf.edu/garden/.

You will need to answer the following questions to complete the coordinates listed below. Enter the results, as indicated by the letter(s) in the appropriate spots.

1. According to the plaque regarding flowering trees, how many species of flowering trees can be located in this garden? (Hint: You should only be counting the "common names" listed on the plaque, not the scientific classifications) Subtract this number from 16 to get A.
2.Using the information on the plaque discussing palm trees, complete the following sentence: Palm trees range from 3 feet to ________feet tall or higher. Subtract 35 from this number to get BC.

Substitute your answers for the letters to get the final coordinates:

N 28º 03.50A
W 082º 25.3BC

...And now for the standard M&M disclaimers!

Dense tree cover may affect your final GPS readings so of course you may have to use your geocaching intuition to find the actual cache. Since this is a busy area, please rehide the cache securely and conceal it well so it cannot be seen. Have fun and feel free to post pictures of your favorite plants, flowers or trees in the garden!

After you locate the cache please make sure to seal the Decon container properly by pressing down on all sides until they snap in place - otherwise the cache may not stay dry.
