Nine for Mortal Men Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

The Alethiometrists: It is with regret that I archive the LOTRS. It was a great series of caches, but it has proven far too difficult for me to maintain. Sic transit gloria mundi!

Geocache Description:

Being the Third Cache of the Lord of the Rings Series...

Keep it Secret: We charge the Fellowship of the Ring with this mission; do not reveal the hides through spoiler clues.

Keep it Safe: Completing this series means accepting real risk of life and limb. Please read the disclaimer below.

Disclaimer: There is no need for anyone to do any of these caches, or to complete them once started. Those who choose to undertake this series do so at their own risk. The terrain in the area of these caches is extremely rocky and steep. Please be careful. But even with care, falling from great heights and other serious, potentially fatal risks remain. Please do not undertake this series if you are not in good physical shape, comfortable with rock climbing, and completely willing to accept the risks associated with this activity.

Assault on Weathertop

As always in this series, the stated coordinates are not correct. You will learn the correct coordinates when you complete "Seven for the Dwarf Lords."

It is at this cache that you will discover the extreme terrain of which you were warned in the above disclaimer. This is an area used by rock climbers, who come here with rope and harness. For those who know how to properly use such equipment, rock-climbing gear could well be used to help reach the cache location. We placed the cache without using such equipment, but this is not to say that this is safe. There is no safe approach to this cache. Please do not attempt this cache if you are not entirely comfortable with accepting these risks.

The coordinates you will receive for this cache are intended only to put you in the center of a circle of 90-foot radius. Within this radius are nine potential hiding places, all of which are pictured below:

One of these nine is, in fact, the actual hiding place of the cache. All you must do is determine which one of these nine it is. By itself, this is certainly no harder than solving the Elven puzzle or finding the Dwarvish runes. As before, we have increased the difficulty rating to reflect the cumulative challenges that must be met to reach this point and find this cache.

The cache is now a long, military-style plastic tube, which will be harder to find than the original camo-covered tupperware. The original cache was initially stocked with a variety of items, including The Nine... and, of course, a log book, which we have, of course, replaced. Upon the inside cover of this log book you will find the long-sought coordinates for the ultimate cache in this series: "One Ring to Rule Them All."
