Rock Island Getaway Event Cache

This cache has been archived.

DCexplorer: Time to archive (finally) and plan for next year. I started a forum at the WI Geocacher's Association website, so we could all follow the discussion, rather than have a bunch of emails criss-crossing the sub-ether. I suggest you check in there, log a reply, and subscribe to be notified of new replies.

Thanks!

Geocache Description:

An Island Getaway

This is a camping event designed to let those interested in caching some of Door County's more remote caches. There will also be some temporary caches designed for this event only, as well as a group activity or two. However, it will be a pretty laid-back affair. More details will be forthcoming as June approaches. Arrival date is Friday, June 17, departing date is Sunday, June 19.

Rock Island is primitive camping; no vehicles, showers, or flush toilets, and usually requires two ferry boat rides to get there. But it is still one of the best camping experiences you can have.

If you wish to attend, you must reserve your own campsite. Reservations are first-come, first served, so if you want to come, I suggest you don't wait too long to reserve your site. To make the journey worthwhile, I recommend at least a two night stay, so I would plan on arriving Friday afternoon and departing Sunday late-morning / early afternoon.

If all individual sites are gone, an interprising Geocacher (other than myself) can reserve one of two group sites at $60 per night for those people that want to camp in a group setting. Individual sites are limited to six people, but the two group sites can hold either 40 or 60 people. Staying at a group site could end up costing less than staying at an individual site if you split the cost of the reservation amongst many groups. Individual sites are $18 per night. (plus reservation fees for ALL reservations, of course)

Details of Rock Island and links to the reservation system can be found at
(visit link)

As I said, more details will come later. Those wanting to attend are free to offer suggestions or help with planning. I suggest setting aside a little time to do the cashes located on Washington Island on your way through, either on your way to Rock Island on Friday or on your way home on Sunday.
