which are comprised of A Man and His Dog... PRAIRIEPARTNERS has set a record for one-day ISQ finds on

INDIANA SPIRIT QUEST
#127
”St. Aloysius!"
Welcome to St. Aloysius Roman Catholic
Church Cemetery. Don't you love saying that name? Rolls off the
tongue, eh? Earliest burial was in 1855. A huge church, and a big
cemetery for out in the country. There is a large Crucifix here, as
is common in Catholic cemeteries. There are Civil War vets buried
here and we found the tombstone of a Spanish American War
veteran:

At 6:15 P. M. on April 25, the following
telegram was received from the Secretary of War:
WASHINGTON, D. C., April 25,
1898
The Governor of Indiana, Indianapolis,
Ind.:
The number of troops from your State
under the call of the President dated April 23, 1898, will be four
(4) regiments of infantry and two (2) light batteries of artillery.
It is the wish of the President that the regiments of the National
Guard or State militia shall be used as far as their numbers will
permit, for the reason that they are armed, equipped and drilled.
Please wire as early as possible what equipments, ammunition; arms,
blankets, tents, etc., you will require.
Please also state when troops will be
ready for muster into United States service. Details to follow by
mail.
R. A. ALGER,
Secretary of War.
Numbering for the Indiana Volunteer
Infantry Regiments for the Spanish American War took up where the
Civil War left off, so the new regiments were numbered 157 thru
161. Indiana had the distinction to be the first state to have
their entire quota mustered into Federal Service. No Indiana units
participated in battles, but the 160th went to Cuba with the Army
of Occupation...
