Geocache Description:

This is the final part of the Axe View series of caches. This one takes you to the mouth of the Axe, where the river meets the sea at Axmouth Harbour.

Axe View:Can you sea the end?

By seeking this or any other cache placed by myself or maintained by me you accept responsibility for your own safety. Caching can be dangerous. Assess the risk for yourself before seeking this cache!

Recommended free parking is at N50°42.356, W003°03.492, or along the riverside towards Axmouth village. This is just a short level walk away from Axmouth Harbour. In prehistoric times the Harbour was the most important harbour in the West of England, protected by the iron age hillforts of Hawkesdown and Musbury. It was a significant port in Roman times and ancient roadways all led to the harbour (the Fosse Way ended at Axmouth). The harbour is now home to the Sailing club.

The reported co-ordinates are not the location of the cache. To find the cache, you need to find the other three caches in the series, namely:

Axe View I: Seaton,

Axe View II: Musbury and

Axe View III: Colyton.

Inside the back cover of each of the three log books you will find two letters and their paired numbers. This final cache is hidden at:

N50°42.ABC, W003°03.DEF

This area can get very busy on a nice day, so ultimate discretion may be required.

I hope you enjoyed your trip around the valley and that you had good views of the surroundings. On your way back to where you came from, you will walk right past (or over) the oldest concrete bridge in the country. This area is home to Cachemad's Concrete Axe cache.
