We can all answer these type questions in the comfort of our own homes but the idea here is to solve them out in the wild, Please do not leave any markings on the question sheet which may help future visitors, If you get stuck I will provide one answer for each did not find logged. Good Luck.
In 1803 one of a country wide network of beacons was sited on top of the Barff to warn against invasion by Napoleon.
Military camps were built and used during both World Wars and during WWII Prisoners of War were kept here. Traces of the camps can still be seen.
The Barff is now owned by Yorkshire Water and contains two covered reservoirs at the summit which provide drinking water.
An area of approximately 80 acres, the Barff supports mature oak woodland and a variety of wildlife, particularly birds and squirrels. There was a group of around 20 squirrels playing in the trees near Part 1 the day we set it. An extensive network of footpaths gives good access and excellent views over the Vale of York can be seen from the top.
There is a Car Park at N53° 46.189 W001° 06.684
