Grandad's Camp on the Heysen Trail, Cudlee Creek
Kees Geytenbeek was a post-war Dutch migrant who occupied the adjacent property from 1970 - 1999. A horticultural expert and philanthropist, he grew to love his adopted country and gain an appreciation of the Australian bush, its landforms and eucalypts, planting a broad variety of species within the valley, vigorously pursuing the management of introduced weeds and shaping the lower valley into a park-like property. He endured the tragic suicide of his eldest son, aged 22 not far from here, but never emotionally recovered. He and his 2 year old grandson would walk to the culvert below here and share the simple pleasure of throwing rocks into the creek- -one of the few experiences they would share before grand-dads death to cancer in 1999, aged 65. The boy later recalled the special place as "Grandad's Bridge".

This cache site is located in the Cuddle Creek conservation park and is maintained by the nearby property owner as a monument to Kees Geytenbeek.
The campsite has an excellent picnic area with a small BBQ/fireplace.
There is a small rain water tank located behind the logbook shelter.

The shelter at this site contains an unofficial Heysen Trail log book.
To score a find make an entry in this logbook. There are no swaps at this location.
However I believe you will find reading the logbook a rewarding experience as there are entries from all round the world. I saw entries from Korea, Sweden and South Africa just to name just a few.
