Geocache Description:

This is a river cleanup event. There are areas around the boat landings that are accessible to all, but access to other areas, including on the water, will depend on the individual.

The Friends of the Edisto will be conducting a cleanup event along the Edisto River beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 14, 2005. Headquarters and after-cleanup cookout will be at Colleton State Park (at SC Hwy 61 and US Hwy 15) in Canadys, S.C.  Additionally, the May SCGA meeting will be held at 3:00 p.m. at Colleton State Park. (see the SCGA meeting page for coordinates to Colleton State Park).

Here is an opportunity to join one of the organizations helping to preserve the ACE Basin (Ashepoo, Combahee, and Edisto rivers) in which numerous caches are hidden.  The SCGA has been assigned the Good Hope Landing (N32 57.950, W080 25.110) and the stretch of river (approximately 4.0 miles) between Good Hope Landing and Long Creek Landing (N32 56.140, W080 24.170).  Landlubbers or those with a watercraft deficiency should meet at and clean around Good Hope Landing.  Those with watercraft (canoe, kayak, or motorboat are all welcome!) should meet and launch at Good Hope Landing and plan an exit and pickup at Long Creek Landing.

With your help, it may one day be impossible to fill a canoe with trash during a paddle down the Edisto River.

Trash bags and drinking water will be available at the Good Hope Landing.  Please come dressed for the activity (including work gloves) and the weather.  Pack a dry set of clothes even if you do not intend to board a watercraft.  Colleton County will collect the trash from the boat landings, but several watercraft with room to carry trash bags down the river would be helpful.  There will be t-shirts and a cookout for participants at Colleton State Park between 2-3 p.m. prior to the SCGA meeting.  We encourage everyone to participate, but ask that for planning purposes interested individuals log a note to this cache as soon as possible.

Nearby caches include Trail Dog Geocache ~ Colleton State Park, Historic Appleby Church Walterboro Wild Blue Yonder, Historic Walterborough, Wally's Swamp, and Givhans Charm.
