El cache está situado en la reserva del Sabinar, al noroeste de la isla. ------------------------------------------------------------ Cache is located in the Sabine forest reserve, at the northwest part of the island.
La sabina es un árbol autóctono de la isla de Hierro, de madera muy apreciada por artesanos por su nobleza y resistencia. En este paraje hay ejemplares milenarios magníficos, que constituyen el mejor ejemplo de sabinar de las Canarias. Impresiona ver como estas sabinas siguen empeñadas por sobrevivir al tiempo y al constante azote de los vientos alisios que los moldean, retorciéndose en formas asombrosas. Algunos ejemplares a buen seguro que conocieron a los Bimbaches, antiguos moradores de la Isla de Hierro y pobladores del mas remoto lugar conocido del Mundo Antiguo trazado por Ptolomeo. Para llegar al lugar debes ir hacia la ermita de Nª Sra de los Reyes y tomar un camino de tierra que lleva al mirador de Bascos. A unos pocos kilómetros coge el desvío a la izda que va al sabinar. El camino se puede hacer en coche, bicicleta o andando. Tú decides. Una vez llegas a la zona de parking, el cache no está muy lejos de de allí, junto a una vigorosa e impresionante sabina de la dehesa. No olvides traer tu cámara de fotos. El lugar también es un buen sitio para hacer picnic. Se respetuoso con el entorno, llévate lo que trajiste, y no dejes mas recuerdos que tus fotos y tu log en el cache. [;-)] Si tenéis tiempo, también merece la pena seguir recto por el camino de tierra por el que hemos venido, hasta el mirador de Bascos, desde donde se divisa la costa noroeste de la isla colgados literalmente a más de 1000m de altura. El cache contiene inicialmente: - Moneda de oro de Alfonso XII .20 pesetas del 1892(reprodución bañada el oro) - 5 pesetas de 1977. - Reloj con brújula - TB Foterillo ------------------------------------------------------------ Sabine is an autochthonus tree that grows in Hierro island. Its wood is very well appreciated by craftsmen for its gentle and durability. On this location, there are some magnificent millenial sabine pieces, which constitute the best sabine forest example on the Canary islands. You are impressed to see how these sabines do continue surviving to the slow past of time and to the constant whip of alisio winds that flows over the whole Canary archipelago, which in turn, mold, and twist sabine branch trees in astonishing shapes. Some of these sabine pieces could have perfectly coexisted with "The Bimbaches", the former Hierro inhabitants who lived here, in the most remote place of the known Ancient World outlined by Ptolomeo. To get the cache you could go to Nª Señora de los Reyes sanctuary and take the path which goes to Bascos mirador. In a few kilometers take the path that turns to the left and goes to the sabine forest (really it's more a grassland). The excursion could be made by bicycle, car or trekking. It's up to you. Once you reach the parking area, the cache is not very far and close to a ancient and vigorous sabine. Don't forget your camera. Enjoy it. Good place also for a relaxing picnic. Please, be respectful with the environment, take away all you took with you, and don't let here anything except your photos and your log in the cache. [;-)] If you have time, it's also recommended to take a glance from the Bascos Mirador. To go there, you should only have to go back to the deviation you took before, and continue straight on. From there you could contemplate the northwest coast side of the island, literally hung at more than 1000 meters. Please, enjoy all. Cache initially contains : - 20 pesetas Gold plated coin.
