Flat Tire Taxi and the Science of emergence Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

goddahooch: I stopped by the GZ (does that means Geo Zone?) last Friday to see if i could get the cache container back and was successful. The parking attendant did not blink when I told him I needed his permission to remove a metal container with random objects magnetically attached to a girder holding up the bridge over our heads. The many folks waiting to get their cars didnt seem to mind either. If you sound like you know what you're doing people seldom question you. Scary. Nothing in the cache of any signifigance. The log, I will hold it close to my heart.

Geocache Description:

Your cache is bit wordy! Could you edit cause I'm gettin bored!

As the gentrification of NYC continues unabated and the clamour to get your hands on a piece of this rock continues. Land is claimed in even the smallest proportions. So the flat tire cache is becoming the unknowing victim of this process. Renamed Days are Numbred because they are. The property the cache is on has found a way to lay claim to a few extra feet of rock and at some point the cache will be un reachable. For now it's ok and I keep a close eye on it and will advise when it has been encompassed. At that point it will become a sort of capsule, containing the log and anything else inside. The function of this cache is to use the natural curiosity of geocachers to help me gather statistics on a seemingly random event in order to determine if there is order to this chaos. What i mean is this. This theory of "emergence" basically says that you can often find order in what appears to be disorder. Case in point, ANTS, They at first appear individually to be acting in a random way, but if you look at the larger picture of thousands of ants you will see that there is order in the mass. The random event that we are looking for is FLAT TIRES ON TENTH AVENUE. Having lived in this area for quite a while I have been aware that there are a lot of taxis driving up tenth with flat tires. This seemingly random event to the casual passerby would seem to be isolated and fleeting. When in fact this happens alot. I want to use the statistics from the log book that you have helped to gather to determine the following. How often does it happen, time of day or night, weather conditions? With the statistics i will then determine what the most likely time of day that future cachers are most likely to spot a flat tire. Who knows what other patterns we may be able to discover in the statistics? I will publish results here as soon as we have enough info to study! What you need to do: Find cache and take it over to tenth and have a seat. Hang out as long as your time allows and look for the flat tire taxis. Fill out questionaire in the log book, whether you spot one or not, and report your findings. Replace cache for the next person. Please go to the wnyc website and listen to the article on emergence prior to visiting. It will peak your interest and open your mind! www.wnyc.org/shows/radiolab/archive.html and look for article on "emergence" Thank You for your assistance!
