Geocache Description:

Some years ago a book was published with the title of wild Dunedin. This cache epitomizes that books title.

Vertigo extreme is located in an extreme location, the scenery is dramatic, the trees grow at an angle of 45°, the cliffs are huge and those that attempt this hunt will need to overcome any fear of Vertigo as at times YOU WILL be but metres away from vertical drops of 100 metres plus.

It is also a physically demanding climb to the cache site.

It is worth noting that the cache will not appeal to everyone, it is definately not a cache under a bush, but those that go into this area even just to view the cliffs will be awe inspired.

Do not attempt if it has been wet.
Do not take any children to the cache.
Extreme caution is required.

In saying this I do visit the cache site regularly we do take a small rope along with us to assist us in our descent and always wear high traction footwear.

Drive to the end of the Kaimata road and park your vehicle at S 45° 52.431 E 170° 44.160, walk to the locked gate and follow the fence line to the cliff edge, please use the styles to cross the fence.

Once at the cliff edge follow the fence line until you get to S 45° 52.701 E 170° 44.272 you will cross a high point at 164 metres.

Once you arrive at the above co-ordinates walk towards the cliff edge (at this angle all you will see is the ocean 100 metres below you but there is a ledge!!).

By now you will be used to the effect of Vertigo... but this is when extreme vetigo will set in. Once you get to the edge at an elevation of 100 metres you will see a track which follows a ledge. Follow this (unless you are into base jumping and have a pick up vessel waiting for you 100 metres) below. You are very close to the cliff edge here so please take it slowly and carefully. Note that the track is very difficult to see.

The cache is located at S 45° 52.744 E 170° 44.328 elevation 28 metres. The cache is located to the right of a memorial plaque. Please note that this is a no swap cache and contains only a note book, pencil and sharpener .

Regretably you now have to turn around and do it all again but its ok you only have to climb back up 136 vertical metres.

Allow 2 hours to do this cache.
