Placed on a challenging walk around the Ochils from Tillicoultry
Glen. The marked path around the Glen was originally built between
the 2 world wars. In a time when they clearly thought we would
rather climb steps than walk up steep slopes to access the hills.
There are strategically placed seats to regain your breath on.
The path is well defined but rocky and very uneven underfoot as
it follows the Glen. At the top of the Glen, leave the marked path
and follow the rough walkers path over the bridge. This will
involve a scramble of about 10 metres at one point, there are
several well used ways across this. You also need to cross the burn
on stepping-stones a couple of times. The cache is sited, a short
distance from a popular route for accessing The Law and you may be
seen from the path while at the cache site.
On your return to the car, if you rejoin the mill track and
complete the circuit, there are some good views across the valley.
For the more energetic, you may want to follow the path up to the
top of The Law, where the views will be even more scenic.
This path is not suitable for bikes or buggies. It is rough
underfoot and to access the cache you will need to leave the marked
trail and follow a track across the hill for a short distance. The
whole area can be very wet underfoot and is rocky, so stout
footwear is essential.
A small car park is available at N56° 09.456, W03° 44.957 or
plentiful on street car parking is available at the bottom of the
Glen. The walk from the car park to cache site is approx. 1.5km,
each way and we would recommend allowing about 1 hour to complete
the round trip.
The cache is in a large sandwich box, and was well stocked with
the usually goodies when we left it. There is a camera in the box,
so please take a photo and we'll post them here when the film is
done.
