I rode along this lane a million times when I was a child and now often drive along when I’m up this way. I tend to stop at this spot to take in the views that stretch for miles – from the fells in the north and down the valley to Newbrough and beyond. If you have a camera with you when you visit, it would be great to see some photos.
Please be considerate as you may encounter some horse riders and an old guy walking his two dogs (one old, grey, shaggy lurcher type and one terrier) – it doesn’t seem to matter what time we go, he’s usually there!
Be aware that this is an unmaintained road and in poor repair. There are houses along the track and there is access from both ends, however it can be steep and muddy and sections of it are only rubble and potholes. We DO NOT recommend that you drive along it unless you have a 4WD vehicle and are used to negotiating this kind of terrain.
The cache was originally placed at the bottom end of a thick log but the log has largely rotted away. However the log's shape is still visible as a guide.
