John Peter Smith donated twenty acres of land to Fort Worth for this cemetery in 1879. It now contains over 60 acres and contains the graves of famous Fort Worth citizens such as Burk Burnett, W. T. Waggoner, K.M. Van Zandt and John Peter Smith. After finding this cache, turn around and observe the grave of W. M. “Bill” McDonald, banker, school teacher, civic leader, Mason official, and major influence in Fort Worth. He was founder of the Fraternal Bank and Trust Co. and has been called Texas’ first African-American millionaire.
