Geocache Description:

The Third Annual International Cache In Trash Out day is on April 16, 2005. In honor of the event we have adopted a two mile portion of 191 in northeastern Pennsylvania. It runs through a Stroudsburg neighborhood and through the outskirts of downtown.

Come help clean up the area and then enjoy some soda and pizza, and a little caching adventure. Starting at 10:00am, we will meet at updated coordinates (keep an eye on those for changes, since the ones listed above are for the southernmost end of our adopted highway.)

It looks like very little trash needs to be picked up so we should finish the walk by noon and then enjoy refreshments and fun. We have plans for a few new caches just for this event, so be prepared to do some hunting after the trash picking.

Travel bugs are welcome! Check back at this site as April 16 approaches, as we will post updates. And sign up early so we can provide the Adopt-A-Highway folks some idea of the number of safety vests to bring. We will also be updating the safety recommendations and other information from Adopt-A-Highway soon.

The Program is simple . . .
We have signed a two-year agreement with PennDOT to adopt a two mile portion of state highway 191 and promised to pick up litter at least four times a year. In return, PennDOT will post signs along the highway giving "Pocono Geocachers" (clever name, eh?) full credit for your efforts.

Your safety is important . . .
PennDOT will provide complete safety training for volunteers as well as orange safety vests and highway warning signs to be used during litter pick-ups. The Department also provides trash bags and will pick-up the bagged litter from the roadside. Volunteers must be at least eight years old, and participants under 18 must be accompanied by adults. Guess we'll be leaving the MiniMoggers at home.

Take care of the environment . . .
You can join a popular effort to clean-up litter on Pennsylvania’s collective front yard -- its 150,000 acres of roadside. By helping to keep this great state clean for our own residents as well as for the millions of visitors who travel our roads every year, you are making an important contribution to take care of the environment.

Our rain date will be that of the Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful Day, Saturday, April 23rd, 2005 from 8AM to 11AM.

Since I am calling this the Pocono Geocachers' CITO on 191, I thought it would be fun for each of you to create a permanent cache site that would be introduced at this event! That just means getting one approved and having the approver (more than likely MissPlaced) save it for posting on the internet until the day after the event. We only want attendees to receive the new coords! Please email the coords before April 15 10pm (after you take your headache medicine from paying all those taxes) so that I can put them all on one sheet (we're saving paper!). If you are interested in an official CITO t-shirt, I will be ordering them on April 2 in hopes of receiving them by the 16th. Please post a note or send me an email if you wish to receive any and indicate size(s) including youth. They are $4 each (any size) and additional information is at http://shop.groundspeak.com/productDetail.cfm?CategoryID=5&ProductID=79 . I will pay the shipping charges and bring them with me to the event. Please bring your payment to this event and thanks so much in advance for participating!
