Geocache Description:

A cache awaits you
Among the red birch and pine,
On East Haven Mount.

You assume all risks involved when seeking a cache. By using this listing you agree to the disclaimer posted at http://www.geocaching.com/about/disclaimer.aspx

This cache was placed by the New England Chapel Snowshoe Crew - CacheNCarryMA, Gagnon - Champion Geocache Caller, Mullenhead, Philippians Search, and Wayward Son. New England Chapel is our church in Franklin, MA. We had a three day mini-retreat at a cabin atop East Haven Mountain and placed a geocache on the way to the summit - elevation 3067ft according to my GPSr. The cache was placed with the gracious permission of Greg Gordon, the owner of the cabin and the surrounding land at the top. Geocachers are welcome.

The trail to the cache winds approximately 2.5 miles up the south side of the mountain. There is a sign marked "SUMMIT" at a fork in the trail. The right fork leads to the summit; the left leads to the cabin and one of the most scenic outhouses you'll ever see. There is an orange-blazed trail from cabin to summit, as well as some naturally unobstructed paths to the top. Round trip to the cache from parking will take a little over three hours. I'm not sure how long it would take come spring.

The original Rubbermaid box did not stand up to the elements, and it was replaced in July 2007. The current container is a .30 cal ammo can, painted neon green and tied with a long nylon cord to a spot in a tree that should be above the snow. My guess is that in winter, snowshoes will allow you to walk over the many obstacles and it will be easier to get to ground zero and hard to locate the snow covered cache, but in summer - due to the numerous blown down trees - it will be harder to get to the cache site and easy to spot the container. Subtract a half star from the terrain rating if you are snowshoeing.

At the cache you will also find a pint-size mason jar, which contains a log book for people to record that they have "bagged" this three-thousand foot peak. Vermont has eighty peaks exceeding 3000 feet in elevation.

The East Haven cabin has bunks for six and is available for a modest rental fee. If you are interested, please contact the owner - Greg Gordon; Camp Shiloh; P.O. Box 194; Jefferson, NH 03583; (603)586-7973; Shiloh@ShilohNH.com. Click here for more info and pics...

Parking - N44°35.805 W71°50.199. On (winter) or just off (summer) Victory Hill Road, which is off Rte 114. In the summer, you should be able to drive up a little further past the small red building.

Cache - N44°37.252 W71°50.016

Posting your find - If you've found the cache please post a haiku (a three line poem, with alternating 5-7-5 syllables) describing your experience.

...oh yeah, and please post pictures! pictures! pictures!
