Geocache Description:

Nice little "Never knew that area was here" cache.

Squalicum Creek is part of the Water Resources Inventory Area No. 1 (WRIA 1), an inventory area that encompasses the surface and groundwater of the Nooksack River Basin. Part of WRIA No.1 is watershed management where stream habitat and water quality is improved by removing trash and invasive plants. Then replanting trees along the banks of the river and if need arises, placing logs and other wood debris in the water to provide both shade and places to hide from predators for fish and other small critters. This little bullet explanation does not do justice to what the agency does in the local area. The Squalicum Creek area the cache is located in was literally trashed and the work crews have done a phenomenal job in cleaning it up. Please respect the hard work that has been done and make sure the footprint you leave is small.
When I was at WWU I spent several quarters wading up and down the stream measuring the depth of the water, or the silt content, or the velocity of the stream, or distance between rifles (look it up), and several other projects. I have always enjoyed the area and it just keeps getting better with all the work that has been done.
