A fairly easy cache especially suitable for steam railway enthusiasts like myself. Fairly level stroll to the cache but could be muddy in wet weather. Winter is the easier season for this cache as its likely to get a bit overgrown in the summer with plenty of nasty thorny stuff!
Located extremely near the East Somerset Railways Cranmore Station this cache is great for railway enthusiasts.
Although the railway, at about 2 miles in length, is much smaller than the West Somerset Railway at Dunster it has a number of interesting steam & diesel locos & runs regular trips & "specials", particularly in summer.
The fact that there is only one station on the line and therefore "hop-on hop-off" is therefore not possible is a bit disappointing. I think that the railway would benefit from extending the line east or west a bit; the physical ability to do this seems to be there on the map. The red tape & funding are a different matter!
The cache is in a small 1 litre tupperware box located very near to the platform. I am not going to give too much away as I would like to encourage geocaching steam enthusiasts to look around this little railway which, by the way, is voluntarily funded. I think you will find it quite interesting.
Ample free parking is available at the station. Walking time to cache is about 10 minutes.
