The cache is beside SH 73 on a riverbank. There is a parking area very close nearby.
The cache is hidden close to the bank of Bruce Stream near the site of the bridge in the Sutton painting. The modern bridge has been featured in the press lately with respect to pedestrian safety when crossing it.
If coming from the west, park in the quite large shingle area on the left hand side immediately before the bridge. The cache will be within a few metres of your vehicle. If approaching from the east, cross the bridge and go past it for about 50 metres before parking near the turn off to Bealey Village, or doing a safe u-turn and driving back to the parking area.
From the parking area there is easy access to the cache. Satellite coverage is very good at the site and I had excellent accuracy. The cache site is visible from the road approach to the bridge and the bridge itself but motorists will be too busy to take any notice of you - but watch out for muggles exploring in the riverbed!
Please be careful if crossing the road as it can be very busy - it was when the cache was hidden as it was the day of the Wild Food Festival!!
The cache is hidden in the light scrub - beware of prickles - on the west bank of Bruce Stream, slightly to the north of the bridge. There is plenty of room for swaps. It has been relocated from its original position on the actual stream bank because of erosion.
This cache should give you an excuse to stop and break your journey. If you have enough energy and time to spare, there are several other caches nearby, only one of which will take more than a few minutes. (Waimakariri View - an excellent cache which could take about 4 hours)
