Geocache Description:

East cache beside a popular fishing spot on the road between Christchurch and the Westcoast not far from Arthurs Pass.

This cache is named after a Dominican Priest (Father Ambrose (Ian) Loughnan). He had been a missonary for many years in the Solomon Islands and Papa means Father in the Warisi language of that country.

During the second world war he was a prisoner of war in Udine Nothern Italy, and in Germany. His experiences during the war and the compassion and example of a Dominican chaplain led to his decision to become a priest.

Whenever he returned to New Zealand to see his family he would spend time at the family retreat (Windrush) near this fishing spot. We spent many happy hours fishing here with our beloved Papa.

The cache is a camo painted snaplock container with the word Geocache in yellow on the lid. When placed it contained the usual log book, pencil, rubber and pen plus
a geocube, a geocoin, compass whistle, knucklebones, elephant and a maze game.
