Geocache Description:

The cache was formally called "Buy it in Budworth". Stage 1 was originally a puzzle written on a card in the Post Office window, but the office has sadly closed. The cache is now a short two-stage multi cache located in the pretty village of Great Budworth near Northwich. The listing coordinates are for the entrance to the church. On 1.1.19, I added some extra text to make the gravestones easier to find.

Great Budworth has retained an old fashioned charm and was used as the village of Stackton Tressel for filming Hinge and Brackett’s “Dear Ladies” in the 80’s.

Stage one involves finding information in the grounds of the fine church of St Mary's and All Saints that will enable you to work out the co-ordinates of Stage 2. All of the stages can be seen from the paths. The oldest part of the church, the Lady Chapel, dates from the fourteenth century and most of the rest from the fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries. Originally Bert's bench was used as a clue but this has been dismantled, so I changed the question on 12.8.18.

The cache is located at N53 1A.BC9 W2 2D.EF0.

In the archway at the entrance to the Church grounds there is a plaque to the people of Great Budworth who died in the Second World War. A is the number who died minus 1.
Walk along the path to the left of the church and then over the dog leg. On the left is the grave of Thomas Gibson. He died aged B3 years.
Walk further along the path and then down the path to the South East. Take 2 from the first digit of the age at which Sarah Platt died to get C. Her grave is on the right.
Head back to the church to the side furthest from the pub. Find the bench dedicated to two people. From the first surname, take the numerical value of the first letter from that of the second letter to get D.
Look up at the clock. E is the number in top right hand corner. F is the number in the bottom right hand corner minus 3.

The cache itself is a tupperware container in a camo bag.

The original cache went missing in March 2006 and I replaced it in a slightly different position... but this was not the end of the story. The Rugby Raptors by chance came upon the original cache hanging on the local school gatepost when looking for the new one a month later. Attached to the old cache was a laminated card added by the local primary school. As best I can guess someone found the original and assumed it had been dropped by one of the local children and so dropped it off at the school. The school opened and it and realised it was part of a game and hung it outside the school with the note asking people not to steal it so that others could find it. A couple of people actually opened the cache, wrote a note and swapped items! What a great story that shows just how nice people can be.
