Satan's Kingdom Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

ZingerHead: I'm thinning my herd of caches. This one hasn't seen much activity, so this last maintenance run is my last. I did transfer the geocoin to a stage in 150 Miles to Glory, and transferred some of the residual loot there as well. Thanks to all who attempted this one. Happy Caching!

Geocache Description:

A hiking cache along the Tunxis Trail in the Nepaug State Forest.

This two part multi cache will take you to some less-often explored areas of the Nepaug State Forest. While the Mainline Tunxis trail in this forest can be driven (with a stout 4x4), the spur and loop trails that will take you to the cache locations are classic blue trail foot paths, with some steep elevation gains and seasonal views.
Begin your hike at the Tipping Rock Loop trailhead, located at N41 50.898 W72 57.412. How you get to the trailhead is up to you, but the roads in the immediate vicinity are jeep roads that really demand a high ground clearance vehicle for safe navigation. In winter a 4x4 is mandatory. There is room to pull your vehicle off the road and park at the trailhead. The Tunxis trail also crosses Route 44 in New Hartford - you can park in the unmarked gated road at N41 51.219 W72 57.236 just south of the east end of the bridge over the Farmington River as you enter New Hartford from the east, and then follow Satan's Kingdom Road south from the western end of that same bridge. The jeep road to the trailhead begins at N41 51.130 W72 57.482. I don't recommend parking outside the state forest on Satan's Kingdom Road. Even though it's not marked as such, people have reported notes left on their cars indicating they were trespassing.
Stage 1 is a well hidden micro near some interesting rock formations. The final is an ammo can hidden in a traditional manner. The cache is stocked with the usual assortment of stuff.

Update: I recently found out that some of the land surrounding the State Forest land is MDC property. You are not allowed on this property after dark, and they patrol regularly. I've changed the cache attributes accordingly.
