Geocache Description:

Stone ruins of the original Watson Post Office.

The original Watson Post Office was established on July 15, 1898. It was located at the Robert J. Ivers ranch at the lower end of the Black Rocks area on the Owyhee River in southeastern Oregon. The Post Office served the isolated ranches up and down the river. The Post Office remained in this location until 1906. All that remains today are the scattered handcut stones of the original building.

The Watson area can be reached via the Jordan Craters road that turns off of Highway 95 approximately 8 miles north of Jordan Valley, OR. The final descent into the Owyhee River Breaks offers some breath taking views. It follows an extremely rugged road that has not been maintained in recent years. A high clearance 4x4 vehicle is a must. The area can also be reached by boat when the Owyhee Reservoir is full.
