Geocache Description:

Take the trail directly to this one. You can drive to within 150 feet.

Cane - Along this trail, you will notice several tall stalks of what looks like bamboo. This is what is commonly known as “river cane.” Cane is a woody member of the grass family and grows on river banks, flood plains, and on valley slopes. When settlers first came to this country, they wrote accounts of vast “canebreaks”, often so thick and tall as to be almost impenetrable. Some of the earliest roads were merely trails where bison had beaten down the cane. Today, in Tennessee the dense canebreaks the early settlers knew have long since disappeared.
