Putah Creek Island Traditional Cache

My favorite trout fishing spot is along Putah Creek under a large tree located right off Highway 128 on the way to Lake Berryessa. Across from this spot and a little bit upstream is an island frequented by both fishermen and wildlife. You are looking for a regular-sized cache hidden in a common manner in a relatively open area on the island.
The trick is getting onto the island. In winter the water level can be quite low, sometimes less than a foot deep, so you can easily walk across the creek. In spring, summer and fall the water can be more than 3 feet high and you’ll have to do some serious wading or you’ll need a boat. Do not attempt to find this cache if the Glory Hole is flowing because the island could be entirely covered in water. I find that it is easily crossed over the rapids. You can find them using the coordinated below or you can hear them from some distance away.
During fishing season be sure to try out a small Mepps on 2 lb test or if you want less challenge and faster results, try orange Powerbait. Most of the time, you’ll be bringing home dinner.
