Located in the Upright Head Preserve on the north end of Lopez Island, near the Washington State Ferry Terminal.
Though Milton said in Paradise Lost, “that dost prefer before all temples the upright heart and pure…” The San Juan Islands are more like the temples of Paradise Found.
This cache is in the Upright Head Preserve on the north end of Lopez Island in the San Juan Islands of Washington State. The short trail begins as a roped-off paved road, Penny Lane, adjacent to the Washington State Ferry Terminal holding lanes (N48.34.130 W122.53.077) and a short walk from the Lopez Island Ferry Landing. The trail winds through Cedar and Douglas Fir in a loop to three viewpoints overlooking the waterways and ferry lanes. The cache is 1/3 of a mile from the road and takes about 10 minutes to get to. The cache is on the trail. The entire loop trail is 1.1 miles and takes a little over a 1/2 hour to walk. Add time for enjoying the view points. The cache itself is at a platformed viewpoint 130 above the water. It is not anywhere near the edge, but small humans should be kept accounted for.
The Cache is in a Rubbermaid 4L container hidden along the trail in keeping the San Juan Island Land Bank’s efforts to preserve undisturbed the natural heritage and landscape. No bushwhacking is needed.
