I NO LONGER LIVE NEAR THIS CACHE. THIS SEEMS TO BE A FAIRLY POPULAR CACHE SO IF WE WANT TO KEEP IT RUNNING I INVITE ALL TO HELP MAINTAIN IT. I HAVEN'T BEEN THERE IN 6 YEARS.
THANKS
This is my first hide. Its in an obscure wildlife preserve in New Town, Owings Mills. The best place to park is at 39 24.653N, 076 48.707W. The journey starts out down an abandon road, then gets a little hairy (those who do not wish to bushwhack see hints). The cache is a medium sized tupperware container. This is a temporary fix, until I can get another ammo box.
I'm sure there is more than one way to skin this cat, but you can get there using trails.
Found by vandals (fools) on April 1. Moved not far from original spot. coords updated in listing.
AREA HISTORY (courtesy of Tall Guy)
Hello, just a historical note about the area. Did you know that Dolfield used to go from Deer Park Road to Reisterstown Road with no stops? That's right. Starting where Pleasent Hill intercects, Dolfield went pretty much exactly east until it cut north to Reisterstown at the intersection of what is now Dolfield South and Gwynn Mills Ct. Gwynn Mills used to connect to Reisterstown Road! This is also evident on Dolfield Road South. If you take it away from Painters mill you make an abrupt right at a hard angle near Owings Mills Blvd. Then another 90 degree left to cross, and then another, and then another to the right! (right here: (visit link) on google maps). Well before Owings Mills blvd existed (prior to 795 also) Dolfield just went straight there as you can see. When they built O.M. Blvd, the road had to be rerouted because of the grade.
The combination of the Mall and 795 completely changed Owings Mills' traffic pattern. The rush to build was so quick that old roads were simple closed and crossed, with big new wide ones. There are many forgotten roads you can still find around the mall, especially if you look at a satellite picture. Maybe I'll do some Owings Mills history caches. Also of interest in the area is the short stretch of abandoned pavement between Red Run Blvd and 795, just east of the cache. This stretch was the end of Red Run before the extension was built up to Church Lane and then Franklin.
