This cache is located in the underutilized South Side Park. Most famous for the defunct Neville Ice Rink. That will change soon because of geocaching and plans by the community to improve the park.
Parking can be found off of 18th Street + in the surrounding neighborhood. Because some morons think illegal dumping is the thing to do the city has gated the entrance to the park from 21st Street; however, one can still approach the cache from this portal.
After you find the cache please please please make sure you hide it as well as possible. There be muggles in them there hills!
The cache is located off an unmarked trail leading up a steep slope. Please be careful (especially w/ children) as there are sheer drop offs in many places. However, don't be too worried. An average hiker will have NO problems navigating the trail. Also, after finding the cache (cause you will find it won't you...) please feel free to explore the rest of the park. There is a real cool view of downtown, oakland. SSflats, SSSlopes, sky, river, and moon from a plateau further down the trail - N 40 25.348 W 079 58.528. I call it the plateau of the auto-ghost...you'll have to see it to know...
If you're curious about the name of this cache...it's because this was a quarry many years ago and like many places in Westsylvania has been undermined. Evidence can be found throughout the park. If you would like to learn more about this park go to www.southsidepgh.com.
