This is a regular cache on Crookham Common, Thatcham, Berkshire.
The nearby Greenham Common was once an airfield and this cache is hidden (roughly) under the old flightpath. Crookham Common has produced evidence of the Palaeolithic, Neolithic and Bronze ages. It seems to have a tradition of 'fighting' in various forms:- in the 19th century a rifle range was built, troops took part in exercises and manouvres and various times and prize fights were held in the area. The first world war saw more troops and tanks training here and in the second world war Crookham and Greenham Commons became an airfield - hence the name of this cache. In 1992 the last 'planes left the airfield and in 2000 the area opened once again as common land for people to enjoy. Suggested parking for the cache is in the car park at N51 22.666, W001 14.963. Leave the car park to the west, then follow the violet trail. The cache is a covered plastic food box filled with a selection of goodies and a log book.
