In the 16th century there was a thriving Iron industry in the Lower
Beeding area. As the iron industry developed, so they found ways of
smelting down larger quantities of iron ore and diverted some of
the power of the nearby streams to create ponds known as Hammer
Ponds.
Today little remains of the Iron industry that once flourished
here except the odd ruin and the Hammer Ponds that were created to
supply water to the furnaces and forges.
Furnace pond is one of these Hammer Ponds, it now however sits
in a quiet wood which is a far cry from how the area would have
looked when the furnaces were working.
The cache is hidden near the pond just off the public footpath
and contains the usual logbook, pen and pencil and various trades.
There are also certificates and Prize for 1st 2nd and 3rd to
find.
Parking is limited but I suggest you try N51:00.723
