A Vineyard View Traditional Cache
Cole59: This one had a good run but has been destroyed by the recent thinning activities. The area is open for another one if someone wants it.

Take a hike in McDonald Forest to the top of Vineyard Mountain for a view and some history
This cache is located at the top of Vineyard Mountain (elev 1448). There are several ways to approach this cache, but I recommend parking at the Lewisburg Saddle and taking the 500 to the 5010 (I think the post says 501) to the top. At the top you will find a small clear container full of little treasures and a log book (please bring your own writing device).
It is rated a 3, because of the steady up hill 500 ft elevation gain on a gravel road. The walk in is about 2.5 miles. At the top you will see the various antennas and a great old fire place where a cabin once stood. This is another cache that was inspired by CFM (a local Corvallis cacher, known for her desire to get you in shape while caching), so don't blame me!
There is a hint because I want you to be successful and not tramp all over (you will find it right next to the road), so have fun and enjoy this great hike or bike in the woods.
McDonald Forest is one of the treasures of living in the Corvallis area. This forest is maintained by Oregon State University and caches placed here need to be approved by them (see "When Good Caches Go Bad" for details). So be good cachers and stay on the approved roads & trails.
For a good map, pick up the "Marys Peak - McDonald Forest Recreation Guide" by Sky Island Graphics at any bike, hike or sporting goods store in the local Corvallis area.
