Mohawk-Hudson Bike Trail Cache Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

rick_adk: I will be quite honest.

This cache is there.

The current generation of geocachers don't like to spend more than 4 minutes looking for a cache. It's all about bragging rights to how many finds they have, rather than having fun looking for them.

The current generation of geocachers make log entries for silly things like it got dark, I was tired, etc and call them "did not find". This discourages others from even bothering to look.

I'm pulling the last of my hides, including this one.

Geocache Description:

April 3, 2010 - cache was checked and all parts ARE in place.
July 4, 2010 - cache was checked and all parts ARE in place.

This cache is a 4-part multi hidden along the Mohawk-Hudson Bike Trail. Trail is mostly paved. Cache is both walkable and bikeable, although the area around the final is far enough off the main trail that you'll need a mountain bike and will probably have to walk it toward the end. I've done maintenance checks on rollerblades, but you will *NOT* be able to get to the final on them!

The final is located a bit off an atv trail/path that mostly parallels the main, paved trail -- but it can be somewhat overgrown during the summer. Watch for it as you get closer to the final. Use the "path" to get to the final -- it's not recommended that you bushwack in from the main trail.

Listed coordinates are for the first micro. Parking is available at N42 47.708 W73 44.678. There are many other spots where you can access the trail that have limited parking. If you'd like to take a nice bicycle ride, park in Cohoes at N42 45.657 W73 42.262 -- this is the start of this branch of the trail (the trail starts at the Corning Preserve in Albany and ultimately ends up in Buffalo!) and there is a small parking area there. Parking there (Cohoes) and doing this cache will give you a 7.5~8 mile r/t bicycle ride on a nice trail, mostly paved. Do not attempt to park in the Colonie Town Park -- the park and its facilities are reserved for Town of Colonie residents.

There are 3 micros, all different, and all hidden differently with a 30-cal ammo can final. The micros WILL make you think. The final was initially stocked with the usual stuff. Because of the heavy traffic the area gets, be sure to watch out for muggles, and to rehide the parts the way you found them.

Parts of the trail are muddy and slippery when wet. Also, you will cross Route 9 through a small tunnel -- be cautious in colder weather because there is always ice inside the tunnel due to a lack of sun.

This cache is a "companion cache" to my "Your Basic Geocache" GCN86J and they can be done together.
