Explore this cute little Hanover County Park (Hanover Wayside Park) adjacent to one of the NEWEST bridges in the county. A short walk off the meandering walking trail leads you to our treasure. As commuters who use this route along 301 every day to go to work, we are placing this cache to celebrate the installation of the NEW bridge, replacing the old bridge was washed out by Gaston! Our trip home just got faster!
There is only one entry into this park, from along Rt 301. Park consists of a circle, with a field in the center, and walking trails with picnic areas along three sides. Drive about 3/4 of the ways around the circle, and park in the field or along the right side at a pull off. Look for a sign that says "Nature Trail, not maintained by Hanover County...". Good entry point. Once there, use your GPS to guide you. Cache is a standard olive green ammo can, full of goodies for kids, men and women alike.
Difficulty is a 2, as there is not a large area to search.
Should have a good signal despite the ground cover. Cache is a short (75-80m) walk off the trail, up a semi-steep hill. Because of the hill and non-handicap accessibility, we rate the terrain as a 2. Please be careful of muggles, some on HORSES, using the trails. Also, make sure to place item exactly back where it was placed. Please sign log. Note: This is our first cache placement! Any feedback, good or bad, is appreciated.
Hope all ages find something they like. Enjoy the multitude of walking bridges in this park and see the old dam. Also, as you exit, be sure to stop and pay your respects to fallen heros at the newly erected (2007) Hanover County Veterans Memorial. Happy Hunting.
