Geocache Description:

The first 2 stages are very easy, the final assault is a bit of a steep climb up a rock pile.

This is our first attempt at hiding a cache so we hope this works out O.K. First the story: I was hanging out in the garage 'Chewin the fat' and drinking some beers with several of my buddies and the subject of geocaching came up. I started explaining to them what it was all about and they all thought that hiding a cache would be alot of fun. We finally decided to make it a themed multi-cache that we could hide somewhere out in the desert. After a few more beers, we finally came up with our theme, we all decided that our wives had way too much jewelry that they seldom, if ever, wore. We figured that we could each 'relieve' them of some of it and that they would probably not even notice. Finally, around midnight and after several 12 packs, we were all emboldened enough to where we were ready to raid our wives jewelry boxes, we decided we would each secure our loot and then meet for breakfast at MickyD's the next morning. That next morning at McDonalds, hangovers a-blazing, we each revealed our loot. Everyone assured me that they had just taken the stuff that their wives would never miss, but I'm not so sure, some of it looked like it might be pretty nice stuff. In any case, we loaded it all into an ammo can and set out for the desert. We drove around for a couple of hours until we found "the spot", not very far off the dirt road but up a steep rocky hill. It was decided by all, that since I was the official geocacher, I should be the one to climb the hill and place the cache while the others stayed below and nursed their hangovers. After a tortuous climb (I was hungover too), I finally found a spot to hide the ammo can, covered it with rocks and logged the coordinates with 2 different GPSr's to make sure the coordinates were as close as possible. Once I made it back to the vehicles, we decided to make this a 3 part cache, 2 clues and the final cache. I wrote the cache coordinates on a piece of paper and laminated it in clear packing tape and then put it in a suitable container and found a likely looking location not too far from the cache location and not far off the dirt road and hid the container under a man made looking pile of rocks at the base of a larger permanent rock. I noted the coordinates with the 2 GPSr's again and repeated the whole process for the first clue. This first clue is located at N 35 43.650, W 114 52.884, it's in an Altoids tin under an obvious man made pile of rocks at the base of a larger rock with light green lichen growing on it. You can park within 100 feet of it and take an easy stroll up a motorcycle trail to the location. It is best to access this area from Highway 95, probably at the first clue for the "Grand Mariner" cache, high clearance 2 wheel drive should be O.K., further on the road has some washouts and goes past a gravel pit that has started to block part of the road
