This is a very beautiful little town with a lot to see here. Please take time to enjoy it. Built in 1896, the depot was the first one built in Wright County and operated as a working depot until 1980. Passengers rode the trains to nearby towns and many commercial products were shipped by rail such as poultry, farm products, and coal. The Dows Historical Society raised enough money to purchase and restore the depot in 1988, and today it is known as The Dows Depot Welcome Center. It has been placed on the National Register of Historical Places.

This is at a restored railroad depot with a lot of history inside. Check out the area parks, the schoolhouse, blacksmith shop, mercantile and businesses on Main St.. This cache even contains coupons for a free cup of coffee at the Cafe. The cache contained the following when placed: post card, iowa map, letter opener, new mini coleman lantern, key ring, pencil, and pen I also dropped off the travel bug "IVAN"
The depot is open Monday - Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm and Sunday from 1 pm to 4 pm. The depot is closed from October through April. If you wish to tour during the winter months contact Mary Ellen Patterson at the Mercantile.
Thanks to the Dows Historical Society for permission to hide our cache.
