Geocache Description:

From I-71, take Kings Mills Rd east. Turn left into the first drive past Kings Mills Elementary School.

The King Mansion was recently sold by the Deerfield Township Parks and is now private property. DO NOT TRESPASS, go around on the trails. The surrounding area (Carter Park) is open to the public.

If you do not know your Kings Mills history, the final cache location can be determined by finding 2 smaller caches and using the information there for the final coordinates.

Stage 1:
N 39 21.524
W 084 14.654
A great explosion and fire destroyed the 3-year-old Peters Cartridge Company’s production facilities almost completely – 0B/1A/1890 at C:50 in the afternoon. A brake man William Franey, making his first trip, miscalculated the distance or the brakes didn’t work, and the freight cars on which he rode struck two cars each loaded with 800 kegs of powder. The resulting explosion sent a geyser of smoke and flame in the air, catching nearby buildings on fire. Eleven people died and hundreds were wounded.

The final cache will use these coordinates: N 39 21.ABC

Stage 2:
N 39 21.563
W 084 14.699
The town of Kings Mills was founded by Ahimaaz King, and construction on the King mansion was begun in 18ED. You can still see A. King written in the scroll work over the front doors of the carriage house. King was manager of both the King Powder Factory (which manufactured the powder) and the Peters Cartridge Company across the river (which loaded the powder into cartridges). He lived in the home until his death in April, 1909. The house remained in the King family for several generations.

The final cache will use these coordinates: W 084 14.DDE

Happy caching. There are deer and deer trails everywhere. We saw 8-10 white tails on the first evening we scoped out the place. Area is muddy after it rains.
