Pins in the Pine Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Sapience Trek: As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

Geocache Description:

Placed after Anton's retirement of his Morningside Conundrum III cache, this small cache is a pin-themed cache (we mean like the pins you wear on your clothes, not like safety pins). It's stocked up pretty nicely, and we'd ask that you limit your trades to travel bugs and pins.

This cache is hidden at a hilltop hiding spot near the water resevoirs on top of the hill over Manley Fieldhouse. You'll find this little-known park -- Morningside Heights Park -- to be a quiet park with a spectacular view of the Valley.

To get in, we'd recommend Anton's advice from Morningside Conundrum:

"Enter the park from the gated service road near the corner of Berkley Drive and Broad Street. A shorter and much more interesting approach is from the empty lot on Morningside Terrace, a one-block street off Hertford Street. Hertford is off Lancaster Ave. near the Edward Smith Elementary School. After you walk across the small vacant lot between two houses, look to your left for an old stone stairway."

Once you're in, follow the stairs towards their end and follow the appropriate trail. Be sure to enjoy the views from the top of the hill -- perhaps while you're signing the log. The cache container is a small (maybe one-quarter the size of an ammo box), clear and plastic one with a locking top.

For more information on the park and its history, the views, the water tanks and more, see Know Your City Parks: Morningside Heights.

NOTE: Short of finding an alternate route to the top, the stairs keep this cache from being handicap accessible. Because there is a paved road that goes up the hill (inaccessible to motor vehicles), it may be possible to get up at some times.
