This cache is located just off the Buckhorn Road (County Rd 44). It is a short, easy hike of about 0.12 miles from the parking area to the cache with a well defined trail most of the way. The cache is in an ammo can.
I set this cache up to highlight an area known for rock hounding. Minerals here include Tourmaline, Mica and others. Sometimes you may find people here with hammers and chisels trying to get good crystal specimens out of the rock. If you decide to give it a try don't forget to bring some safety glasses!!!
This cache has a good view of Crystal Mountain to the south and is a nice setting amongst the pines if you want to picnic. There is parking for this site at N40 34.217, W105 25.600. The Buckhorn is a dirt road, but in good condition and does not require four wheel drive. If you have never been on the Buckhorn Road you will find it an enjoyable drive.
Please replace the rocks by the cache container to keep it from sliding away from its hiding spot.
