Geocache Description:

Rough Rider GeoCache Event

Rough Rider GeoCache Event

The 3rd Annual Heritage Days GeoCache Event.

Date June 18th  2005

Start Time 11:00 AM Parking at: 34º 11.627 103º 19.923

This year’s event will be two events in one. All teams will meet at the above coordinates between 10:00 and 10:45 AM each team will be given a starters kit. The kit will contain some items and a list of coordinates.  A few ground rules will be announced.  Then all of the teams will start out at the same time approx. 11:00 AM.  Each team will find as many caches as time allows. ALL teams must report back to the above coordinates by 3:30 PM.

The first event will be the main event and will send your team all over Portales. The second event will be held following the first and will be “Just For Kids”.   This event will be held at the starting and ending place of the meeting point. “Just For Kids’ will consist of several caches within walking distance.  This area is in a fenced in area, large but fenced. Each cache will have items just for the kids.  Parents can go along with the kids and help with the GPS.  The kids can exchange items in the true GeoCaching spirit.

Drinks will be provided, teams are encouraged to bring their lunch, or pick one up.  There are several fast food restaurants nearby.  Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.  There will also be some special prizes.  Teams are encouraged to stay as long as they like to visit with the other GeoCachers.

If you plan on making it please post a note here.  I need to know the number of team members, and the number of kids and their ages (so we can make the cache items fun for all ages attending).  Please put this cache on your watch list it will be updated as plans develop.  Plan on a day of caching and fun, water will be provided for teams to take with them on their caching.  Remember to bring extra batteries and sunscreen.

There a few teams and people I need to thank, that have given prizes for the event. First Pat at the Chamber of Commerce, Sport Lab of Portales, GeoKitty of Las Cruces, Espy Seay of Levelland, Landguard of Amherst, and ZiaCache (Jim) of Hobbs.
