This cache is located on Tabletop Rock ridge, a .75-mile hike (one way) from the upper parking area. The trail is fairly flat, well defined, and hard packed earth. A center section of about 200’ offers only a small challenge. At the end of this section go UP the path and UP the steps. The "Tabletop" rock has slid over the edge but its hard to change the name of the ridge., so we just left the name as is.
The upper trail is one of the lesser known and traveled paths in the park. But as you travel along the ridge and across the plateaus you have some of the best vistas to be had. Along this ridge from both sides you can see parts of the Canyon you wouldn’t normally travel. This vista is the only place (so I'm told)you can see "The Lighthouse" landmark from a distance. Enter the trail at the second horseshoe turn as you start down into the Canyon from the top but before you start down the long straight downgrade section. There are several turnouts on the right where you can safely park. This is also one of the entrances for the "CCC Trail". If you miss the turnouts, you’ll need to go all the way to the bottom of the Canyon before you can turn around and come back up.
The "CCC Trail" has been improved and is complete. You can now start at the SW corner of the Amphitheater parking lot and follow the trail the the above mentioned "fork" in the trail. Be sure to follow your GPS at this point. The CCC Trail is a fairly steep trail and more difficult but a little shorter. Decide wisely which way to travel. If you take this route please add your comments about this trail. SPECIAL NOTE: During the summer run of the play "TEXAS" the Park Rangers want everyone off the final plateau by 5:00pm. Other than that you can ignore the big "DO NOT" sign (if the production people put it back up).
The cache is a Folgers coffee can, somebody took the ammo can and left the coffee can.
