Geocache Description:

An offset cache to commemorate our Pioneering Mariners.

The D'entrecasteuax Channel, A Mariners Delight, has been described as one of the best Waterways for Recreational Water Craft, and looking at the amount of Yachts & Expensive boats moored around the Channel (& in the Huon), I'm sure plenty of people agree.

This cache will take you to a Commemorative Monument, that celebrates the visit's by Captain Bruni D'entrecasteaux in 1792-3 when he discovered & named the channel & many surrounding areas including Bruni (y) Island. It's in a popular camping/fishing/diving area, and as such I have placed the cache a short drive away from here.

you will need from the Monument, the date it was Unveiled in the format DD/MM/YYYY. this will be AB/CD/EFGH.

The cache is located at;

S 43 16.BDF
E 147 13.DDG

Enjoy the cache.

Here's some historical research for you to gain extra bonus points, email me the answer for a warm & fuzzy feeling.

on the 11th August 1853, 8 Runaway's from the Southport Probation gang committed a crime in and around this area & were sent to Port Arthur, some for the term of their natural lives, what was their crime?
