Crane's Farm Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Cache-tech: Greetings from Geocaching.com

I have had no contact with the cache owner since my last note and there has been no notes posted to the cache page in that time. While I feel that Geocaching.com should hold the location for you and block other cachers from entering the area around this cache for a reasonable amount of time I don’t think we can do so any longer. Therefore, I have archived this cache.
When repairs to this cache are completed and it is time to have it reposted, it will be no problem. Just drop me a note and let me know the GC waypoint number of the cache or better yet, the URL of the cache page. You will still be able to access your cache page just as before by going to your “My Cache Page” and clicking the link (Mine) across the top and then click on this cache.

I will be more than happy to take a look at your cache again to see if it is still is within the guidelines of the Geocaching.com website for cache placement and posting.

I want to thank you for the time that you have taken to contribute to geocaching in the past and am looking forward to seeing your cache up and running in the future.

Thanks for your understanding,
Cache-tech

Geocache Description:

Locate highway 10 and proceed to LaManche Park. Find the trail to the falls at the far end of the park. The original cache was vandalized and had to be moved . The new coordinates are listed above.

A little history of this area: In the late eighteen and early nineteen hundreds the Crane family had a farm in this area. There were several acres of cleared land and the family home was located not to far from the park access road. The park access road and the remains of the old bridge are part of the old southern shore highway. In1919 a fire destroyed the family home, barn and other buildings. The fire was believed to have been caused by the train that traveled further inland. (Hot coal from the smoke stack). Mrs Mary Ann Crane was the only person living on the farm at the time, her husband Paddy had died and her children had moved on. The local story has it that Mrs. Crane refused to leave her home even though two local men Paddy and Mick Colbert tried to convince her to leave before the fire reached her house, she sat on the door step and said St. Joseph would save her. ( What faith )Sadily Mrs. Crane died in the fire. Two cows perished in the barn and two more escaped into the pond. The fire traveled to the ocean before it burnt itself out.
