Geocache Description:

#13 of "Our Town" series
This cache has been placed with owner's permission. Please park in parking lot not on the road.

To retrieve this cache, you will travel a section of the historic Fort King Road. In the 1800's Fort King Road went
from Fort Brooke on Tampa Bay to Fort King in Ocala. At that time it was a 20-foot wide path through palmetto scrub, pine barren country, swamps and hostile Seminole Indian territory. December 28, 1835 was the 6th day of the march north by Major Francis Dade and his column of 108 men. In what is now Bushnell, the unit was attacked and massacred by over 200 Seminole warriors. Only two soldiers survived. This incident started the Second Seminole War.
